How To Wear Shooting Socks: Over Or Under Your Breeks?

Knowing how to wear shooting socks correctly is an essential part of shooting etiquette. So, with that in mind, should you cuff your breeks on or off? Which strategy would best showcase your industry knowledge? For a style guide on how to wear shooting socks, keep reading!

Do Socks or Breeks Go On First?

If you agree with 68% of the electorate that socks should be worn over breeches, then you are in the majority. But is it really the case? Sports agent Adam Calvert firmly disagrees. In his own article, he stated: “I can’t believe people misunderstood this! Always wear breeches over socks. Your breeks are too tiny if your socks need to cover them. I base my notion on the basis that historically, long socks should still be worn above your knees, he added, adding that while tying up your garters, only the designs of the tassel should be seen since a long tassel is “the fieldsports equivalent of a naf tracksuit.”” Additionally, he said that just the very tip of the tassel should be seen when you knot your garters.

More About Breeks, Plus Twos, and Plus Fours

Breeks are really legwear that fasten with a buckle and sit just below the knee, but in this context, RBSS and Mr. Calvert are using the term “breeks” to refer to breeks, plus twos, plus fours, sixes, and eights generally, which is a fairly common use. No extra fabric hangs over the cuff or falls below it.

Plus twos and plus fours, on the other hand, are manufactured with extra fabric that is meant to be folded over the cuff, which remains fastened just below the knee. As you would have guessed, plus twos have an additional 2 inches of material, plus fours have an additional 4 inches, and so on.

Wearing Shooting Socks with Plus Twos, Plus Fours, and Breeks

All types of shooting clothing, whether contemporary or traditional, is designed to keep the user warm, dry, and at ease while spending the day in the field. The weather must be kept out as a priority. And here is where I start to disagree with Mr. Calvert’s assertion that breeks should always take precedence over socks.

Now, whenever it comes to plus twos and fours, it stands to reason that putting the breeks over the sock’s folded-down top makes sense since the extra fabric provides more wind and rain protection.

Real breeks, on the other hand, are not like this. Regarding breeks, it is highly recommended that you fasten the cuff, try pulling the sock right above over the cuff, and tie the garter just below the cuff, then fold the sock back down over the garter, leaving just a tiny overlapping the bottom of the cuff to create the weather-proof seal. You cannot prevent the sock from falling down, but you can prevent the cuff from riding up. Additionally, breek-over-sock will conceal the fashionable pattern at the top of your socks if you prefer the jazzier style of shooting sock!

How To Style A Tweed Skirt: Finding The Right Top

Tweed skirts are not challenging to wear, yet they have a specific style since they may be toned down but not too much. They are also appropriate for evening gatherings, although not the most dressy ones.

We’ve split down what you can wear with each colour, concentrating on which shirts and shoes you may choose, in order to provide as many style suggestions as possible for what to wear with a tweed skirt. To learn how to dress a tweed skirt, keep reading!

Pairing with Navy Tweed Skirt

With the color appearing in every high street store these days, particularly during the colder seasons, navy has become as timeless as black.

A pink shirt provides your outfit an attractive and put-together air. Pink and navy are fantastic color combinations. Consider a smaller check pattern, striped shirts, or a gingham check, which goes nicely with navy tweed.

A timeless baby pink Oxford shirt pulls out the color in the design of the skirt even if you don’t like clashing patterns. A colored polo shirt, though, might make you seem more laid-back if you’re trying for a more casual look.

Navy tweed looks best when paired with neutral hues like white and beige if you want to stay away from too much pink. Consider wearing a striped Bardot shirt. Your outfit is made brighter by pairing a white shirt with blue tweed.

Pairing with Green Tweed Skirt

Wearing a green tweed skirt might be challenging since you don’t want anything to compete with the pattern and colors that run through it. This particular tweed skirt is ideal for the cooler months since it has purple/berry and navy colors. For colder days, you might opt to wear it with a lovely coat, and complete your ensemble with a Oakmoor flat cap  and high heels for a chic style!

flat cap Tops To Avoid With a Tweed Skirt

You should refrain from dressing too casually due to the design of a tweed shirt. The key in this situation is to think feminine, put-together, classic, and country chic. The kinds of shirts to stay away from pairing with a tweed skirt are detailed below.

  • Avoid wearing slogan t-shirts since they look best with casual trousers or jeans. Adding a message might devalue your ensemble since tweed is a timeless, country-chic fabric.
  • Look for fitting tees that can be folded into your shirt while shopping. Wearing your shirt outdoors would seem sloppy, therefore this presents a sleeker appearance.
  • If a jumper will be worn over them, vests as well as tank tops may be worn as layering items. If not, avoid wearing them by themselves with a tweed skirt since they are too informal for this appearance.
  • To make your tweed skirt stand out, adhere to sticking with smaller designs on your upper half. Checks and stripes go good with tweed, but make sure they don’t overshadow it. Also, ensure that you keep them in the same color family as your skirt.

Best alternatives to jeans for men and women

Everybody has a favourite pair of jeans that they go for often, whether it’s a pair of slim denim jeans for women, a pair of chic cropped jeans, or a pair of straight-leg jeans for men. However occasionally it would be wonderful to add a little variety to our usual attire by finding an alternative to jeans. Since they are now worn for practically every event, including casual ones today, jeans have grown so widely accepted. There has never been a better time to experiment with something a bit new if you’ve become reliant on denim. Discover the finest jeans alternatives for both men and women by reading on!

What to wear instead of jeans: women

For ladies, there’s a very clear, and always popular, alternative to jeans – a fashionable, cozier skirt. Skirts are quite adaptable since you may dress them down or up for a variety of events. A skirt, which is often seen as being more formal than trousers, may be easily dressed up with a lovely top and accessories for a night out with the ladies or even as a professional work uniform. A classic tweed skirt is the ideal sophisticated skirt choice since it mixes classical check patterns with high-quality wool tweed fabrics. For the whole formal appearance, team your tweed skirt with just a country print shirt, some leather Chelsea boots, and a matching tweed jacket.

Skirts are a fantastic solution for less formal settings as well. Your legs are allowed to move about for maximum flexibility while wearing a skirt, which is often more comfortable than a pair of rigid denim pants. A twill chino skirt, which blends super-soft cotton fibres with a loose style, is the ideal casual and comfy skirt. Wear your casual skirt with a simple t-shirt from your wardrobe every day and a pair of leather deck shoes.

What to wear instead of jeans: men

There are several wonderful alternatives to jeans for guys, along with more formal, more casual, and some that fall somewhere in the between. Men’s moleskin trousers are your best option if you’re seeking to put together a more formal ensemble.

Moleskin trousers are made of a pure cotton fabric that is 100 percent comfy. They may be glammed up with an Oxford-cotton shirt and a pair of leather brogue shoes, providing a somewhat more refined choice than a typical pair of denim jeans.

In contrast, you could be better off choosing a pair of men’s chinos for a more laid-back appearance. Chinos have a less formal appearance that is ideal for casual situations since they are somewhat softer than jeans. Chinos are made from very soft cotton fabric and are incredibly light, making them perfect for the warmer months.

Unlike jeans, chinos can come in a variety of soft and vibrant colours, allowing you to totally customize your outfit. Put on some leather deck shoes and your chinos with a simple, everyday t-shirt. Chino jeans are the ideal option for you if you’re searching for a denim alternative that is smarter than chinos but less formal than moleskin pants.

Barn Dance Outfit Ideas From Modern To Classic

Beginning in the 1860s, barn dance has a lengthy history. It is said to have started in Scotland and England back when common people would congregate in barns to mimic the dancing of aristocratic landlords. The building of a new barn, a holiday, a birthday, a wedding, or any lavish event were all common occasions for barn dances back then. Since the entire town would be invited, they were seen as significant social occasions.

Barn dances are still common today and provide you a reason to get together with friends, dance to traditional folk music, and sing along to your favorite country tunes. It might be challenging to decide what to dress for a barn dance if you have never attended one. It might be difficult to choose the ideal country-inspired costume to dance the night away. We’ve prepared for you with our advice on what to dress for a barn dance, so don’t worry.

Classic Barn Dance Outfit

A pair of trousers or shorts made of denim is also representative of the traditional barn dance. If it’s warm outside, it’s a good idea to wear a pair of denim shorts in order to dance without becoming too hot. For the classic tough barn dance appearance on women, high-waisted, rough-cut denim shorts are the standard, but don’t be afraid to deviate from that trend.

The ideal choice for males is a pair of loose-fitting, lightweight chino shorts. Chino shorts are far more comfortable to walk about in and they’ll keep you a lot cooler than a rigid, hefty pair of denim. Make sure your plaid shirt’s checked pattern matches the color of your shorts.

Modern Barn Dance Outfit

Create a somewhat more modern barn dance appearance if you’re searching for something a bit more fashionable and in style. Women may want to choose something a bit more flirtatious and exciting, such a flowing dress or a figure-flattering skirt. While maintaining the rustic barn dance motif, a tweed skirt will also make you seem chic and refined. To complete the style, wear your skirt with a flowy, light shirt in an animal design. If it’s chilly outside, you also could add a tweed jacket to complete your barn dance ensemble. Finish off with some leather Chelsea boots or, for a summery appearance, some deck shoes.

Accessorizing Your Barn Dance Outfit

There is no barn dance attire without some traditional rural accoutrements. To get an authentic appearance, a traditional hat is a need. To add a classic touch, a leather cowboy hat for men or women would be ideal. As an alternative, you might choose a men’s baker boy style cap or a women’s wool felt hat with feathers.

To complete your barn dance outfit, you might even add a rustic leather belt. Choose a traditional brown leather belt to go with your boots and cap, or go for a colorful polo-inspired belt. Women may finish their look with a saddle bag with an equestrian theme, while men can add a country shooting tie for a hint of class.

A Guide To Pairing Your Tweed Jacket With A Waistcoat

Tweed is renowned for being one of the most challenging fabrics to wear; it is harsh, unyielding, and difficult to style garments with. You could be seeing it incorrectly, however. It’s hard yet warm, inflexible but durable, and difficult to style, but if you know what to wear it with and how to wear it, it can be really adaptable. With the help of this useful tutorial, learn how to wear your tweed waistcoat and blazer!

About Tweed Jacket

Tweed is a hardy wool fabric that rural inhabitants have historically used for outdoor activities like shooting and hunting. It has changed through time to become new designs like houndstooth and herringbone. Tweed overcoats are commonly identifiable in media such as Doctor Who and Sherlock Holmes !

The material has made a comeback in the fashion industry and is currently offered in a variety of goods, colors, and designs. This design, which Coco Chanel first popularized in the 1920s, has come back in recent years, and several merchants have turned it into a wardrobe must.

After learning about tweed, it’s time to consider what you would put on beneath your jacket. You may rapidly go from a smart-casual appearance to considerably nicer clothing by adding a waistcoat. Here are our best style suggestions for wearing a waistcoat with a tweed jacket:

Style Your Tweed Jacket and Waistcoat for a Casual Look

It all depends on what you layer up with a tweed jacket, but it will always look sophisticated. Our Men’s Derby Tweed Barlaston Shooting Jacket can be combined with a shooting sweater for added warmth and a country check shirt. Just add a pair of jeans as well as boots to complete the outfit. A pair of wellington boots will work well if your daily activities get a bit muddier. Wear this outfit for regular work, visiting family and friends throughout the holiday season, or strolling around Christmas markets. You may forgo the layers in the summer and make the most of your Country Check Shirts.

Style Your Tweed Jacket and Waistcoat for a Smart Casual Look

By switching out the shoes, we can quickly dress up this outfit while maintaining the same jacket and trousers combo. For an ensemble ideal for a laid-back night out at the bar or a restaurant, slip into a pair of brogues and take the shooting sweater off. If you really want to go all out, you could always switch the jacket for a blazer.

Style Your Tweed Jacket and Waistcoat for a Smart Look

You must substitute a blazer for the jacket for the ultimate sophisticated ensemble. Our tweed blazers are available in a variety of hues and designs. Combine it with a classy oxford cotton shirt and a matching tweed waistcoat, such as our Men’s Harris Tweed Dalston Waistcoat. Chinos with classy brogues quickly improves your look. This kind of clothing works well for dressier occasions including weddings, parties, and special evenings out. Alternately, swap out the chequered waistcoat with a simple one to make the jacket the main attraction. Just be sure to coordinate your colors and choose a color from the check or tweed to draw attention to.

7 Ways To Style A Knit Sweater This Winter For Women

Winter is the ideal time to add an additional dose of warmth and coziness, but cable knit sweaters may be tricky to style. You may style a cable knit sweater in a variety of ways thanks to this article!

Layering A Knit Sweater is Key

Despite how much we missed layering throughout the year, winter is here, so take advantage of it while you can. Trendy turtlenecks and sweaters that don’t necessarily make you seem bloated might be the ideal alternative instead of layering over a bulky sweater, which is not always a smart idea. With these items, you may protect yourself from the cold while having fun with jackets and overcoats that don’t always scream winter. Even in the cold, it may be a fun way to finish wearing your more basic, casual coats.

Style A Knit Sweater for A Casual Look

For a really casual style that works both during the day and at night, wear your cable knit sweater with a straightforward tank top beneath and some slim-fit jeans. To give it a more feminine touch, add a pair of high heels, and you’re ready to go!

Style A Knit Sweater for A Date

If you’ve been asked out, you may want to think about wearing something a little prettier. Consider pairing your cable-knit sweater with a stylish skirt or pair of jeans and some neutral flats or shoes. If you’re heading someplace more formal, you may even choose to wear a suit jacket!

Make sure the color palette is attractive and the ensemble flows well, but don’t be scared to attempt something novel.

Style A Knit Sweater for A Professional Look

Try pairing your cable-knit sweater with some beautiful dress slacks and a tie, just like the pros do, if you want to dress it up a little. If the blazer is still in vogue, you can even wear it again (it totally is). It’s a fantastic method to remain warm throughout the cold while maintaining your professionalism.

Styling A Ugly Christmas Sweater

Try wearing your ugly Christmas sweater below your other clothing rather than on top of it if you’re seeking for a nice method to integrate it into your ensemble. Although this may sound like odd advice, if executed properly, it really looks extremely charming, so why not give it a shot? When it begins to get chilly or when you want to stand out from the crowd, get out the tacky sweater.

Styling A Knit Sweater with Skirt

To be a little harsh, it could simply be the way you’ve been wearing it. Sweaters have a horrible reputation for making you appear like a granny. Utilize your magnificent items and trendy clothes to the fullest. Choose a stunning skirt that is completely at odds with the knit sweater you possess. Always keep in mind that combining thick materials with fluffy ones may make you appear amazing!

Styling A Knit Sweater with White Shirt

Wearing a sweater with a white shirt is a classic appearance that should not be disregarded. If you want to play the layering game, pair it with jeans, ankle boots, and a leather jacket to give your outfit some edge. You may also wear it with leather leggings and boots.

5 Benefits Of Including A Knit Sweater In Your Travel Kit

Knitwear, which until recently was mostly used for winter clothing, is breaking out of its stereotype thanks to modern machinery that can produce textiles that are comfortable enough to wear in the summer.

Travelers often like knits because of their many amazing properties. You may reap the following 5 advantages of packing a knit sweater while travelling, according to frequent travelers:

It’s Comfortable

Knits are very comfortable, making them ideal for travel. Knits are now again in vogue because of the growing popularity of athleisure (athletic+leisure). We believe it ought to have stayed in trend. Knits provide the utmost in comfort, whether you’re wearing a tight dress on a lengthy commute to work or an enormous sweater to keep you warm in an overly air-conditioned aircraft or bus.

Travelers are familiar with the pain of prolonged sitting. It will be really irritating if your clothing does not move with your body. The flexibility and breathability that the interwoven loops have are what give knits their elasticity. As a result, knitwear adapts to the body and moves with it, enabling comfortable travel. Additionally, the elasticity makes for a comfortable fit.

It’s Wrinkle-Resistant

Knits resist wrinkles due to their capacity to be stretched. Heat and moisture cause other fabrics to shift as well as reset into new unequal or misaligned positions, which results in wrinkles. Knit fabrics are more likely to rebound to their original form as opposed to being fixed in the newly wrinkled shape due to the linked loops and their flexibility. This makes knits less likely to wrinkle. This is perfect for folks who travel or commute to work since it allows them to arrive at work or meetings looking presentable.

It’s Low Maintenance

The days of cleaning knit clothing with special care are long gone. Your vacation wardrobe will be hassle-free, requiring minimal upkeep with modern materials that are machine washable. It’s fantastic to have the choice to merely toss your clothing in the washing if you don’t have the time or desire to dry clean them. Contrary to popular belief, you can pretty much machine-wash any knit sweater you own. Simply remember to place the sweaters in a mesh bag, wash them on a moderate cycle with cold water, then lay them flat to dry.

It Packs Well

Additionally, you may carry as many knitwear items as you like without worrying about ironing them. They may easily be twisted into forms that fit neatly into a bag. Since they can be quite elastic, you can opt to compress them to fit more into a smaller area. Knit sweaters may be rolled to save space and prevent wrinkles.

It’s Versatile

Given the longstanding negative connotation of knitwear as being overly casual, this one may come as a surprise. However, even a casual outfit may be chic, and knitwear can be formal. Knitwear may be a cosy alternative while getting dressed for vacation, whether it’s cashmere or merino wool sweaters. Women who have worn body-con, skater, or wrap dresses to work understand how wonderfully knits drape. The weight of the cloth allows it to hang and fit beautifully. While this may be accomplished using woven materials, the comfort cannot be duplicated. Because knit dresses allow for flexibility without sacrificing design, they are ideal for ladies who travel. Knits are extremely simple to style; with a few simple accessories, you can dress them up or down.

Women’s Style Guide: How To Wear A Tweed Jacket

Tweed jackets have improved so much in terms of trim and style in recent years that they have steadily made their way to the forefront of professional wear. These jackets are fantastic because they look sophisticated, comparable to traditional blazers, but come with softer tones and can be matched in a multitude of ways. In this article, we will show you how to style a tweed jacket for women.

Jeans

You will quickly modernize your tweed jacket when worn with thin jeans, slim-fit jeans, straight-leg jeans, or cropped flared jeans. But one tip remains if you want to maintain a more classy style: choose jeans that have few to no rips.

Shorts

Replace your denim outerwear with a tweed jacket to wear with your shorts on a cooler summer day if you need to prep a throw-on for your long day out. A tweed jacket looks fabulous with any kind of shorts, from lace to denim and Bermuda styles.

Match-Up

A matching tweed outfit, which includes a jacket and a tweed skirt, is incredibly feminine and reminds us of royalties. But if you’re not attending a formal occasion, though, you might want to split up or remix these pieces so you don’t come off as being too pretentious.

High Heels

To add to our previous point, investing in a tweed skirt suit can help to unleash your inner queen. The suit-up appearance is excellent for fancy occasions and the formal office when paired with high heels. Wear a plain shirt under the jacket if you’re worried about seeming too over the top.

Dress Down

A tweed jacket like our Women’s Jack Murphy Sasha Tweed Jacket is a must-have for women who wish to appear elegant both in the office and after work hours. Since a tweed jacket, like a blazer, is a timeless garment, it can look wonderfully stylish when toned down and worn casually with a basic tee. It smoothly shifts from work to play when you do so.

Leather Bottoms

If dressing down is too informal for you, try pairing your tweed jacket with a pair of sleek leather bottoms. After all, you can try out different prints and textiles that may win you the title of style expert. This pairing is ideal for a first date or a gathering with friends.

Button-Up Shirts

There are some fail-safe combos you may attempt if you might not want to go all-out dressy in a tweed suit but still want to seem sophisticated and office-appropriate. Well, you can’t go far wrong with a basic button-up shirt and a tweed country blazer jacket. Ruffled satin blouses are also a terrific alternative for adding more refinement and femininity to your ensemble.

A tweed jacket is a classic item of clothing that will work in any woman’s closet inventory, whether she works in an office or a more casual environment. It is a fantastic jacket to slip on wherever you go and a wise investment fashion statement because it looks just as well in off-duty outfits as it does in professional ones. Use our above style guide to help you nail the look you desire to achieve.

Why Do Hunters Wear Tweed?

Tweed is an age-old tough fabric made from wool that originated in Scotland in the 18th century. This material has shown its usefulness throughout history, from its humble beginnings as a durable cloth used by peasants for labor to its embrace by the middle and upper classes and, more recently, its popularization by top designers. Tweed was traditionally preferred by the working classes because of its tenacity, insulation, and wind-resistance capabilities, which makes it an ideal outfit for hunters. Tweed can also endure damp conditions without needing to be treated, which is a highly desirable trait. Continue reading if you want more deets on why hunters love wearing tweed.

Stylish

Tweed clothing has a trendy look resembling a high-end design with appealing colors and patterns. Tweed fabric, moreover, typically has patterning that isn’t present in other types of fabrics. Tweed outfits, for example, are frequently made with the herringbone pattern — a v-shaped design that looks like a chevron pattern. It is also frequently referred to as a broken twill weave pattern.

Cold Resistant

Tweed can keep you warm in the winter. Due to their woolen structure, tweed garments are warmer than most other materials. Tweed isn’t a naturally occurring material, contrary to common assumptions. Rather, it’s made of densely woven wool in a twill or herringbone pattern. Wearing tweed-made clothes will warm you up throughout the winter months when you’re out hunting. Wonderful, isn’t it?

Keeps Moisture At Bay

Walker and Hawkes tweed outfits are waterproof due to the permeable membrane we have inserted between the layer of cloth and interlining, which offers improved moisture protection than other types of apparel. Tweed suits’ moisture-resistant characteristics can be best understood by first looking at their structure. They are constructed of wool, as previously stated.

Wool, particularly sheep wool, includes lanolin, a natural liquid component that resists moisture. So, if you have to go hunting while the weather is bad or if you’re faced with unpredictable weather conditions, a tweed jacket is a great option that will keep you dry.

Durable And Comfortable

Woolen clothing isn’t known for its durability. Wool is a delicate fiber that, like other soft fabrics, may be damaged when overworked. But tweed differs from other fabrics in that it has wool that is intricately intertwined, which defends it from breakage. If you’re sick of wasting money on new hunting attire only to have them fall apart a few months later, the tweed fabric might be the solution to your outdoor fashion woes.

Plus, they’re also really comfy. Tweed has a soft touch due to its tightly woven woolen structure. You can wear a Ladies Hazelwood Jacket all day without worrying about it itching your skin or causing other irritabilities. The woolen composition of all tweed outfits is gentle and smooth on the body. As a result, they are comfortable to wear for extended periods while you focus on hunting for your prey.

Tweed’s durability ensures that it will keep the user warm on cooler days. It’s also extremely long-lasting and naturally wrinkle-resistant. Traditionally crafted in earthy tones for a classic, effortless, and elegant look, tweed is quite adaptable and may be used for a variety of occasions when you’re heading outdoors, not only hunting.
