Product Care Guide

product-care-guide

Buying and frequently throwing away clothes is a normalized phenomenon in today’s times. However, this is an expensive habit that can really cause a dent in your wallet. Furthermore, this is extremely wasteful and harmful to the environment. It is thus important to learn how to properly care for the clothing items that you have so that you can increase the lifespan of your clothing items. This can greatly help in cutting down the number of new clothing items you purchase.

Caring for Walker & Hawkes Products

Walker & Hawkes products are manufactured with premium materials. Despite the high quality of our items, it is important that you take good care of your clothing items so as to prevent any unintentional damage. It also ensures that you can reap the maximum benefits of our clothes for a longer time. Improper care can destroy the quality of clothing and make them uncomfortable. Here are our top tips to care for our most popular clothing items.

Tweed Jackets

Tweed should be washed as little as possible and should instead, be dry cleaned so that their original look and feel can be retained. However, if you do need to carry out any form of cleaning at home, here is what you should do.

Hand wash your tweed jackets in cool water and use a gentle soap to clean off any stains. Do not use powder detergent as this is usually too strong for your tweed jacket and can cause damage. You can also invest in shampoo that is specific to such materials, such as cashmere shampoo. The key to handling tweeds is to be very gentle hence, do not wring or aggressively rub the material while washing.

Waxed Jackets

To clean off dirt on the superficial layers of your waxed jacket, use a soft brush. After which, you can wipe down the jacket with a cold cloth. Waxed jackets should not be placed in the washing machine and should not be forcefully dried. If you are naturally drying your waxed jacket, do not expose it to direct sunlight as this may cause it damage. To increase the lifespan of your jacket, re-wax it at least once a year.

Wool Jumper

Unlike the previous materials, wool is generally more resilient and durable as a material. Wool can be washed in a washing machine but you should also check the product care tags, which usually indicate the settings at which the wool should be washed in the washing machine. Shrinkage is very possible when your wool jumper enters the washing machine. Some washing machines have a “wool setting” and it is best if you can use that setting to wash your wool jumpers. However, if your washing machine does not have this setting, you can use the cold water wash to clean your wool jumper. Additionally, you should be using a laundry bag when washing anything made of wool and utilizing wool detergent.
